A Number of Intriguing Facts About Mesa Airlines

Mesa Airlines certainly has an intriguing past and it spans over thirty years. Well, you could certainly argue that this company has been through more than most other companies. However this is a testimonial to their ability to do well. Mesa Airlines is included in the Mesa Group, which contains many other smaller airlines. Chapter 11 bankruptcy was declared by the Mesa Group however as of 2011 they are now fully operational again. The company is ready to continue growing its business aggressively now that it's a lot smaller.

If you're reading about Mesa Airlines you'll undoubtedly see the name Mesa Group spring up as well and they are both related. The Mesa Group had declared bankruptcy in March 2011, but they finally came out from it, and they're keen to resume operations once again. Chapter 11 bankruptcy was declared by them so that they were able to shift some planes that were no longer needed, in addition to reducing their debt. Three months was all it took for the group to complete their bankruptcy proceedings. This may actually be the least amount of time an airline has ever spent in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy court. Mesa Airlines also has another name that it operates under, which is US Airways Express. This is the result of a code share agreement with US Airways established in 1997. US Airways Express spans out over fourteen destinations in the United States. Phoenix Arizona and Charlotte, North Carolina are the main flight bases for US Airways Express. This operation runs a number of planes, in particular the Dash 8 aircraft and both the Bombardier CRJ900 and CRJ200. However, in 2005, Mesa was in bankruptcy court and this particular code share agreement with US Airways was not reaffirmed.

Sometimes it can get confusing when trying to keep track of all the code shares and mergers among airlines, especially smaller regional carriers. Just an example of how the aviation industry handles such matters.

America West Airlines, an airline associated with Mesa, joined up with US Airways in 2005. Because of the code share pact, Mesa remains a part of the contract with US Airways Group. That particular arrangement allows Mesa to exist as US Airways Express due to yet another code share agreement. In the end, Mesa is able to keep its objective and gainful transporting service.

The condition of Mesa's finances in March 2011, when they emerged from the bankruptcy, were great. Mesa's services have continued to turn a profit for the company as their services reach all over the US. Important management personnel were also bought back into Mesa Airlines because of their extensive experience with the company.
